It was sooooo good at first. I fell in love with it and couldn't put it down. But the ending disappointed me. I wanted so badly for cassidy to just realize that genes arent who you are. That yes they can be passed down but who you are is who you choose to be etc etc but intead it turbs out ********spoiler alert******** he's not even the serial killers biological son. Just felt cliche and unrealistic to me. And I wish the author would have focused more on cassidy accepting who he was than discovering he wasnt who he thought.... Idk... Hm...

Unloved..... this story, this man, this author, where do I begin......... Katy Regnery never fails to give us a great story but, this book is something special. This story is beyond what I expected and I have no ideas on how to give a worthy review. Unloved is truly a love story, a story of a beautiful pure soul who is the son of a serial killer. Unloved is a story of a strong but broken woman who finds a reason to live after tragedy. Cass is tormented by the blood running in his veins and the thought of contaminating a woman is just too much for him to bear. Living quietly, is the way he was raised, away from the world..... until he happened upon Brynn in peril and that is when his world is altered forever. I loved every word of this book, every tear, every heaving sob, and every break of my heart, and the eventual ecstatic happiness that these two souls earn. I could not find the proper words to do just to the beautiful souls of Cass, Brynn, and this book justice. I can only say thank you to Katy, and to beg you to read this book. You need this in your life, you will be changed forever.
Unloved is easily one of the best romances I’ve read in some time. I was drawn in from the first page and hated to have to put it down for any reason. Brynn and Cassidy completely captivated me, and they nestled themselves deep within my heart. Conveying just how special this book is going to be nearly impossible.

Heartbreak was a central theme in Unloved, both Brynn and Cassidy had been dealt more tragedy in their lives than either of them were equipped to deal with. I found the way they each utilized their own heartache to find understanding in the other particularly poignant.

Unloved is told from both Brynn and Cassidy’s POVs. Their voices were distinct, they each had unique speech patterns and word preferences. I am a sucker for dual POV because I love having the insight into each of the character’s thought processes, this book was a perfect example of why having that information was so important. Particularly having Cassidy’s viewpoint, I think if we didn’t have it he might have been a hard character to love.

Brynn, Cassidy, and their relationship drove this story. Of course, there were outside factors that manipulated their journey towards one another, but Unloved is a character-driven novel. Getting to know them and watch the spark of lust, need, and attraction blossom into something solid and lasting, all while fighting the future they knew was coming made my heart both swell and shatter simultaneously. They were a wonderful demonstration of what truly selfless love looks like.

Katy Regnery is an author I read frequently, her books are fun and interesting, but NOTHING I’ve read by her before Unloved comes close to the book I just read. I was completely blown away by the writing in this book. Her prose was sublime, each word, each sentence, building to a crescendo I could have never expected. If this is a sign of the direction her art is taking I will be a faithful worshipper of her words.
“The devil’s son.” He had heard those words so many times, from so many people, that he believes they may be true.

This much anticipated book — well, it was simply riveting and stunning. From start to finish, every word so meaningful and touching in its delivery. A love story that sets itself apart from most you’ll read — very near one-of-a-kind.

The genetic references were fascinating, and my curiosity grew as the author unraveled pieces of information relating to inherited traits that may pass from a father to his children. Without a doubt, research played a major role in completing this storyline.

The cover and book blurb may draw readers to the conclusion that this story is dark and heartbreaking. But the truth lies somewhere between the sunlight of day and the darkness of midnight. There is beauty and ugliness. Some of it straight from today’s headlines bringing reality just that much closer. My words will never be able to do this tale justice. But I can assure you that it is so much more than a tragic and lonely saga. It comes with an unexpected and life-changing happy ending. Truly, you do not want to miss this one.

Katy Regnery gives a voice to both Cassidy Porter and Brynn Cadogan. She brings their magical and heart-wrenching story to life on the pages. Beautifully written and spellbinding, her words will gut you one moment, and in the next, bring your heart to almost bursting with tenderness, hope and love. I caught myself holding my breath and wondering what feelings would surface with the next twists and turns throughout most of the book.

Since she’d lost her fiance’ two years ago, Brynn had basically locked herself away in isolation living a life of solitude. Something (and I’m not gonna tell) triggers her need to say a final good-bye to Jem atop his favorite mountain in Maine. She found a place in my heart with her kindness and understanding, acceptance and giving spirit. When things go very wrong, it is Cassidy who finds her and nurses her back to health. It was an added treat to watch her interact with her parents during a rather stress-related period – and even more so as her mom and dad brought a little comical relief into the situation.

Cassidy is an unordinary character. So different from the usual sexy dominating alpha heroes starring in most of our beloved romance novels. He will surprise you at every turn. He’ll wrap himself around your heart completely capturing it. From the moment Cassidy is introduced, he brought out the mama bear in me. I wanted to fight the good fight for him, ward off the offenders and somehow right the wrongs he’d unjustly suffered. And I darn sure was adamant that his tormented existence be freed, granting him love, peace and joy for the rest of his life. I’m going to leave it at that – you need to savor every minute with him for yourself. Cassidy deserved the very best happily-ever-after the author could conjure up for him.

Some readers may classify the connection between Brynn and Cassidy as insta-love – and for the most part, I’m not a fan of such love stories. But this pairing was different from the start. For me, it had a soulful draw that reaches far deeper than the physical or emotional level. Bound together by soulful ties. An intense connection between them as if they were indeed two pieces of a puzzle fitting perfectly together. The “insta” never raised its ugly head in my view.

Nope, you won’t find a lot of details in my review — only heaps of praise and a gigantic recommendation. This is one of those cleverly intoxicating books where it’s best to go in blind, savor each word, and end the epic and unforgettable journey with a deep sigh and a big smile.
